This workshop is designed to promote understanding of the potential impacts of global warming from carbon dioxide emissions and other greenhouse gases; to share information about actions leaders can take to reduce carbon dioxide emissions; and to inspire citizens and leaders to take action throughout the world.

Moderator: Ms. Jennifer Smith Grubb, Executive Director, Sustainable Silicon Valley
Description: Sustainable Silicon Valley, a public private partnership among government, business, NGO and academic leaders, is voluntarily working to reduce carbon dioxide ( CO 2 ) emissions in the region by 20% by 2010, based on 1990 levels. The discussion will focus on creative actions municipalities and businesses are taking to reduce CO 2 emissions, through public policy initiatives, energy efficiency and the increased use of renewable sources of energy, as well as associated cost savings.
Second Panel Discussion: 3:30 - 5 pm

Description: This international panel will focus on the innovative actions cities are taking to reduce greenhouse gases in the developed and developing world, with a background in the science of climate change informing public policy decisions. The discussion will highlight actions involving public outreach and engagement, partnerships and challenges with other levels of government and/or the business community, the development of adequate budgets, and the establishment of metrics to track progress.
