On April 18, 2006 , SSV received EPA's Region 9 Environmental Achievement award during an awards ceremony in San Francisco .  EPA honored SSV with the award for its work in coordinating a collaboration of Silicon Valley businesses, government, and non-governmental organizations to reduce carbon dioxide emissions through energy conservation and renewable energy use.  SSV has a regional goal of reducing emissions 20% below 1990 levels in the next four years.  SSV President, Jennifer Smith Grubb said, "We are looking forward to helping other regions adopt our ideas and face their environmental challenges collaboratively as we do, with business, government and non-governmental organizations working together.  Together we can lead the way to a sustainable future."

SSV partners reduced their combined emissions 3.5 percent from 2000 to 2004, while the Silicon Valley region overall increased emissions 5% over the same period.  SSV was chosen, along with a number of other organizations, to receive the award from over 160 nominations submitted to EPA because of its innovation, collaborative model, and ability to be replicated in other regions.
